President’s Update 21/06/2017

To the valued Toowoomba Basketball Community,

 

Firstly I would like to comment on some negativity going around about our Mountaineers program on some social media sites and within the Basketball community. First and for most the TBA committee is behind the QBL and SBL program, players and coaching staff.

Even if we haven’t had the results that we would like it is an extremely tough competition with many NBL and WNBL players in other teams.

Along with other associations spending 4 to 5 times the amount on their programs and only having 1 or 2 locals playing in their teams which we can be proud that we have at least 6 or more in our teams.

I came in to the position of President after the teams and coaching staff had been appointed and pre-season underway but I am backing our Mountaineers 100%.

We have financially been in a bad way after our QBL seasons in the past but this year we have been working very hard to make sure that there is no loss taken by this program.

Looking to the future of QBL we will get a report at end of the season from coaches and the subcommittee reporting on the season.

This will then be reviewed with an eye to the future on how we proceed with the Mountaineers program but for now I ask that we support our teams 100% as the only way forward is as a whole community.

Other things that I am working on is putting a plan together with short and long term goals some of these are

  • Grass Roots Basketball

  • Strengthening our clubs and club competitions

  • Owning our own stadium and facilities

  • Continual improvement of our coaches, referees and technical people

  • Taking basketball to more schools

  • Major Raffle for Stadium Fund

  • Keeping our players in Toowoomba and getting more recognition from Basketball Queensland

  • A successful and financially viable QBL and SBL program
