Athletes wishing to be considered for selection in the 2026 U16 Boys and Girls Representative Teams are invited to attend the scheduled trial sessions outlined below.

Toowoomba Basketball’s first ever Basketball Queensland QHoops session was officially a sell out with 20 participants!

QHoops is Basketball Queensland’s introductory program designed to help young players build fundamental basketball skills, develop confidence and most importantly have fun in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

It was fantastic to see so many young athletes giving everything a go, encouraging one another and enjoying every minute on the court. The energy and enthusiasm on display made for a brilliant first session.

A huge thank you to our Coaches - Josh Allen, Krystal Timms, Matt Polman and Matt Cox.

Finally thanks to the families for helping make our session such a success. We can’t wait to see everyone back on the court as they continue to grow!

Over his time with Toowoomba Basketball, Matt has played an important role in helping shape the growth and direction of our programs, supporting our athletes and coaches, and creating opportunities throughout our basketball pathways.

SQJBC | U12 Toowoomba Mountaineers Super Round Results

A fantastic weekend of representative basketball for our U12 Mountaineers program, with three teams competing across Division 2 and Division 5 at the Super Round on the Gold Coast.

The weekend provided our athletes with the opportunity to compete against quality opposition, continue developing their skills and represent the Mountaineers in Rounds 3, 4, 5 & 6 of the competition.

U12 Boys Toowoomba Mountaineers – Division 2

Our U12 Boys are continuing to make their mark in Division 2, producing an outstanding Super Round campaign and currently sitting equal 2nd on the ladder.

78–60 vs North Gold Coast Seahawks 2

83–45 vs South West Metro Pirates Purple
103–38 vs Gold Coast Waves

The group has been playing with confidence and consistency, showcasing unselfish basketball. Their ability to share the basketball, create opportunities for teammates and maintain a high standard across each game has been a highlight. Although most importantly it is this team’s defensive intensity and commitment to completing every possession that is truly remarkable.

Sitting among the top teams in a highly competitive Division 2 competition is a fantastic achievement and a credit to the players, coaches and the work they have invested throughout the season.

U12 Girls Toowoomba Mountaineers – Division 2

Our U12 Girls faced one of the toughest challenges of the weekend, competing against the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams in Division 2.

33–30 vs RedCity Pride

The group showed great resilience and continued to compete against some of the strongest teams in the division. Each game provided valuable learning experiences, allowing players to develop their decision making.

The highlight of the weekend was finishing with a well earned victory against RedCity Pride, demonstrating the team’s growth and ability to execute in a close contest.

U14 GIRLS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS — DAY ONE WRAP UP

The U14 Girls Mountaineers have opened their State Championships campaign with two tough contests against quality opposition.

The girls faced SQJBC Silver Medallist’s the North Gold Coast Seahawks in their opening game of the tournament, before backing it up against Southern Districts Spartans Black later in the day.

After a difficult opening game, the team responded with great fight and determination against the Spartans, staying neck and neck throughout the contest before a late push in the final few minutes saw the game slip away. While the results didn’t go our way, the team showed plenty of fight, resilience and determination as they adjusted to the intensity and challenge of State Championships basketball.

Every game is an opportunity to improve and this group continues to represent the Mountaineers with pride, commitment and a great team first attitude.

Toowoomba Basketball would like to acknowledge and congratulate Harrison Hornery on his selection in the 2026 Indigenous All Stars team.

A former Mountaineer and Toowoomba Grammar School student, Harry continued his development through the US high school system before progressing to NCAA Division I basketball with the University of Southern California (USC). He is now back in Australia continuing his career in the NBL1 having played with the Rockhampton Rockets last year and currently the Eltham Wildcats.

Congratulations Harry on this outstanding achievement. We wish you all the best in your game on Tuesday night!

U14 Boys State Championships | Day Two

A challenging but valuable stretch of pool games for both Toowoomba squads at the U14 Boys State Championships, with important lessons taken and everything still to play for heading into Day 3.

The Toowoomba Mountaineers opened their Day 2 campaign with a 37–60 loss to North Gold Coast Seahawks 1, before responding in a tight contest against the Bundaberg Bulls, narrowly going down 79–83 in an Overtime game decided in the final moments. Despite the results, the group showed resilience and competitiveness across both fixtures, staying in the fight until the closing stages.

Toowoomba Mountaineers Blue produced a dominant response across their Day 2 matchups, securing a commanding 95–38 win over the Moreton Bay Suns before following up with an emphatic 88–23 victory against the Maranoa Heat. Their pace, defensive pressure and ability to generate scoring runs proved overwhelming across both games.

Mountaineers Blue now shift their focus to a massive Final Pool Round clash, taking on the undefeated South West Metro Pirates Red in a top of the table showdown at 11am, with top spot in Division 5 - Pool A on the line.

For the Toowoomba Mountaineers, an early 8:00am must win clash against Southern Districts Spartans Black will determine whether they remain in contention for a 2nd place finish in Division 2 - Pool B. We expect a high intensity start as the group looks to respond and keep their finals hopes alive.

What an incredible day at our Girls Only Clinic!

A huge shout out to Toowoomba Mountaineers players Abby Stephens, Honey Cooney and Yasmin Checkley, who led today’s clinic with so much energy, encouragement and heart.

The impact went far beyond basketball. They created an environment where every girl felt welcomed, included and supported to give it a go, build new skills and grow in confidence.

Feedback received from the clinic:

“The environment that Abby, Yasmin and Honey created was truly exceptional. They made sure athletes weren’t just able to participate but able to thrive. The atmosphere and culture you’ve created is genuinely something special. We have never experienced anything quite like this elsewhere. Basketball has become the clear winner!”

This is exactly what our program is all about creating opportunities, building confidence, fostering friendships and inspiring the next generation of female basketballers.

U14 Boys State Championships | Day One

Strong start from both the Toowoomba Mountaineers and Mountaineers Blue, with Day 1 of the U14 Boys State Championships delivering a statement opening performance from both squads.

The Mountaineers opened their campaign with a hard fought 64–43 win over the Burdekin Wildcats, before building momentum with a tight 58–42 victory against USC Rip City. Across both games, their defensive pressure and ability to control key stretches of play stood out.

They will look to carry that form into Day 2, facing the North Gold Coast Seahawks at 9:30am before backing up against the Bundaberg Bulls at 3:30pm.

Mountaineers Blue were equally impressive, starting with a composed win over North Gold Coast Seahawks 3, 85–29, before finishing Day 1 in dominant fashion with a 95–18 result against the Emerald Chargers.

Their Day 2 schedule sees them take on the Moreton Bay Suns at 11am, followed by a 5pm clash with the Maranoa Heat.

Both squads showcased consistency, depth across the roster, and the ability to finish games strongly. This sets a solid platform for both teams heading into the remainder of the pool games.

Day 2 of the Knights Laundry Mini Neers Holiday Camp delivered another big day of energy, effort and smiles all round. Congratulations to our prize winners who won Mountaineers merchandise signed by QSL players Abby Stephens, Josh Allen, Honey Cooney, Yasmin Checkley and Chelsea Jacklin!

Our young athletes built on their skills through fun drills, competitive games and teamwork challenges. There was plenty of improvement and great attitudes on display across every group.

Day 1 of the Knights Laundry Mini Neers Holiday Camp is in the books and what a positive start it was!

There was great effort across all groups, with players showing strong willingness to learn, listen and take on new challenges. The energy on court was encouraging and it’s exciting to see growth with a number of first time players.

Every session is about progress, confidence, and enjoyment. Today set a strong foundation and our coaches are looking forward to building again tomorrow!

Congratulations to Toowoomba Mountaineers Abby Stephens, Honey Cooney and Yasmin Checkley, along with a special shout out to former Mountaineer Laura Conway, on recently winning the GBL Gold Women’s Championship with Real River City.

The quartet have been key members of the Real River City GBL Gold Women’s team, competing weekly on a Wednesday night in the premier Women’s Competition at Brisbane Basketball. This achievement is special as they helped the club secure its first ever championship ring.

Special mention to Abby Stephens, who was outstanding in the Grand Final, scoring 43 points, including nine three pointers, to lead Real River City to a 95–88 victory over the West Brisbane Falcons.

It was fantastic to see our more experienced officials giving up their time to mentor and support the next generation of referees, sharing knowledge, guidance and real game day experience in a live environment. Moments like these are what strengthen our basketball community and all officials walked away developing confidence and consistency.

Last week the Toowoomba Mountaineers headed out to Highfields for the Saturday morning Academy Basketball session with their Junior Hoops Program

It was a fantastic morning with 40+ participants turning out for a great event full of energy, learning and fun!

The junior athletes then had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Toowoomba Mountaineers QSL halftime game experience

It was awesome to see so many young hoopers attending the skills clinic and then cheering on the Mountaineers at the QSL game. The future of basketball in our region is looking bright!

Toowoomba Basketball is proud to announce it has been awarded hosting rights for the 2027 Basketball Queensland Under 16 Girls State Championships.

Tournament Dates: 7–10 April 2027

The event will bring Queensland’s top junior female talent to Toowoomba for four days of elite competition.

This is a significant milestone for our association and reflects the continued growth of basketball in our region.

We look forward to welcoming teams, officials, families and supporters from across Queensland for an outstanding championship experience.
