Liz Fiveash brings a lifetime of basketball experience and a deep connection to Toowoomba Basketball to her role as President of TBA.

A Toowoomba local, Liz began playing basketball while attending Harristown State High School and went on to represent the Toowoomba Mountaineers, Queensland U18 Women and Queensland Senior Women. Basketball has remained a family tradition, with her daughters Kellie and Jenny also progressing through the Toowoomba Mountaineers and Basketball Queensland pathways to represent Queensland.

Liz has extensive experience in coaching, sports development and administration at local, state and national levels. Her coaching career has included Queensland representative teams and Australian national programs, including the Pearls, Boomerangs and Gliders. She has also held senior roles with Basketball Queensland, the Australian Sports Commission and the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation.

Her contribution to basketball for athletes with a disability was recognised with the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for her work leading into the Sydney Paralympic Games.

For Liz, Toowoomba Basketball is much more than a sporting association—it is a community. It is a place where people come together, where young players develop confidence and friendships, and where opportunities can begin at grassroots level and lead all the way to representative and elite basketball.

Looking to the Future

Liz sees the coming years as an exciting period for Toowoomba Basketball. TBA is undertaking significant work to modernise and strengthen the Association, with a renewed focus on good governance, contemporary operating systems, sustainable competitions and clear development pathways for players, coaches and officials.

That work is already taking shape. TBA is strengthening its junior and senior representative programs, expanding development opportunities, investing in coach and referee education, building stronger connections with affiliated clubs and schools, and creating programs that make basketball accessible to more members of the Toowoomba community.

Central to Liz's vision is a clear pathway through the sport—from a child's first experience of basketball, through club and development programs, to Junior and Senior Mountaineers and opportunities beyond Toowoomba.

With strong participation, committed clubs and volunteers, and a Management Committee focused on the Association's long-term future, Liz believes TBA has an opportunity to build something enduring: a modern, inclusive and sustainable basketball association that honours its history while creating even greater opportunities for the generations that follow.
